• Description: 1-1/2 story; wood frame with horizontal board siding; irregular plan; intersecting hip and gable roofs with composition shingles; brackets with extended beam ends at gable over the porch, paired boxed columns resting on a low wall, with mortice and tenon ornamentation, capitols with curved profile, semi-circular attic vent with cornice below at gable end; two side-facing entry doors wood-paneled; windows 6/6 wood double-hung, multipaned casements; hipped dormer on west; exterior brick chimney on west; detached 2-story garage at rear.
• Significance:  Constructed for John F. and Alice Byus in 1914. On April 4, 1914 they gave a Mechanic Lien to W. P. Berry and Company for $2650.00 to construct a 5 room frame shingle roof dwelling by May 15, 1914. It was to be constructed of “good substantial material and erected strictly according to the plans and specifications…” Payments to Berry were to be 13 quarterly installments, the first 4 of 5100.00, the remaining 9 of $250.00. The 1928 directory lists Ned D. and Lillian Shands at 213 Mantooth; he was the Vice-President of the First State Bank and Trust. The different addresses can probably be attributed to a large scale address change throughout the city between 1928 and 1937, noted in the directories. Structure is good example of Craftsman/Bungalow style. It is nominated to the National Register. The area of significance is architecture.
